Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is an e-cigarette?

An e-cigarette is an electronic device that allows a user to intake nicotine without the harmful side effects of smoking a cigarette.

How does an e-cigarette work?

An e-cigarette uses a battery to heat up a heating element (also commonly known as a coil). When the coil is heated with e-liquid inside it creates a vapour which is then inhaled by the user.

What is a coil? (Also know as a heating element/filter)
  • A coil is a metal wire or mesh, used in the tank/pod parts of an e-cigarette. This is heated up from the power of the battery, which in turn heats up the e-liquid in the tank/ chamber to create the vapour.
  • Coils also come in different resistances which require different e-liquids and power settings on your e-cigarette device. Smaller kits such a pod kits tend to have a higher resistance coil, meaning the draw off these particular devices is tighter and harder on the throat. Making it similar to a cigarette. These coils are best used at lower wattages. Larger kits such as dual battery devices tend to have a lower resistance coil, meaning the draw off these particular devices is smoother on the throat and is easier to draw on. Meaning it is less like a cigarette. Intermediate kits tend to give a user the option of a higher resistance coil and a lower resistance coil. Meaning with these kits you can use both thick and thin e-liquid while also adjusting the power higher or lower depending on the coil in use. Making these the most customisable kits. So as a general rule higher resistance coils means a higher wattage of power is required and lower resistance coils means a lower wattage of power is required.
What is e-liquid?

E-liquid is the liquid used inside an e-cigarette. It consists of vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol and nicotine if desired.

There are also different ratios of e-liquid which determine how thick or thin the e-liquid is. The most common ratios are 50% Vegetable glycerine to 50% propylene glycol and 70% vegetable glycerine to 30% propylene glycol. The more propylene glycol in an e-liquid  means it is thinner in consistency and the more vegetable glycerine in an e-liquid means it is thicker in consistency.

So as a general rule…

Thinner e-liquid is better in smaller devices such as pod kits or pen styles. Which have a higher resistance coil.

Thicker e-liquid is better in bigger devices such as intermediate kits or advanced kits that have a lower resistance of coil.

What is nicotine salt?
  • Nicotine salts are salts consisting of nicotine, they are found naturally in tobacco leaves. These can be bought as liquids in strengths of 10mg or 20mg and this form of e-liquid is also inside the popular disposables.
  • Nicotine salt is the fastest way to get your nicotine fix. When inhaled this type of e-liquid absorbs instantly through your cheeks. Giving you the hit you need but with the smoothest throat hit.
What is free base e-liquid?

Freebase is the purest form of nicotine, and is the most commonly used form of nicotine in e-liquids. Freebase nicotine is created by adding ammonia to pure nicotine.  The vast majority of e-liquids on the market contain freebase nicotine. This type of nicotine is used in the 50% PG to 50% VG 10ml e-liquids and also in the bigger 70% VG to 30% PG bottles of e-liquid. When inhaled this e-liquid takes a little longer to absorb but gives you the throat hit you need.

What is a disposable e-cigarette?

A disposable e-cigarette is a small device that also comes prefilled with e-liquid.  These have a certain number of puffs. There are also some rechargeable devices on the market that are still pre-filled but allow a user to recharge the device until all e-liquid is used.  With these devices there is no need to changing coils or re-fill it with e-liquid.

What is cbd?

Cbd is the second most active ingredient in cannabis. However, cbd or also known as cannabidoil is derived directly from the hemp plant or manufactured in a laboratory. CBD does not cause a high, it relaxes and is used for a variety of medical conditions.

Is vaping safe?

In 2015 the public health of include concluded from a study that ecigarettes are 95% less harmful than tobacco.

In the UK, ecigarettes are tightly regulated for safety and quality. They do not produce carbon monoxide or tar, two of the most harmful elements found in tobacco smoke. While nicotine in the ecigarettes is an addictive substance its not harmful. Ecigarettes do not produce second hand smoke.

As with all electronic devices it is important that the correct chargers/batteries are used for the device to ensure there is no fire risk. Make sure you use the charger the device comes with. When purchasing an ecigarette that contains external batteries make sure you are purchasing a genuine product, or this could potentially be life threatening.

Battery safety and what to look out for:

  • Genuine batteries tend to be on the pricey side. If unsure Google the make and model of the battery and compare with images online.
  • Do not use a battery if the wrap/sealant around the battery is damaged or missing.
  • Do not use a battery if the white circular insulator ring is missing or damaged.
  • Always carry batteries in non conductive containers and never have them loose around anything metal/conductive. This could cause a chemical reaction in the battery causing it to heat up and potentially explode.

How do I know if my coil needs changing?

As a general rule, your e-liquid is usually lighter in colour will darken. Also, the taste of your flavour won’t taste the same. You may experience a burnt cotton taste when inhaling your vape. Another good indication to look out for is if your device has suddenly started leaking.

How often do I need to change my coil?

Generally around every 2-4 weeks. All users will vape different liquids , at different power settings, in different temperature settings and in different quantities. So in terms of changing a coil, change it when you think is best for you as an individual.

How much nicotine do I need to use?

How much nicotine needed for you will be different for someone else too. This all really depends on how many cigarettes you currently smoke a day and getting the right strength is so important when switching from tobacco to ecigarettes.

The different strengths available in the UK are 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 10mg, 12mg, 18mg, 20mg. The lower the number the less amount of nicotine is in the eliquid. Sometimes it is written in the form of a percentage so 3mg would be 0.3% of nicotine. Check out our handy chart to find out which nicotine strength is best for you. If its your first time vaping its also better to go for eliquids that are 50% Vegetable glycerin to 50% propylene glycol. These will give you the best I can’t believe its not a cigarette feeling. Its also best to go for a starter kit/pod kit device. Contact us if ever you need our expert advice.

What is the best flavour?

The answer is there is no flavour better than any other. Flavour is completely subjective and everyone’s palette is different.
